...A breezy and warm day expected across middle Tennessee on
Thursday...
...A strong cold front will move through middle Tennessee Thursday
afternoon and evening...bringing with it the potential of severe
thunderstorms with damaging straight line winds...
A warm front will move north of middle Tennessee overnight.
Meanwhile...a surface low...in association with a strong cold
front...will develop across the middle Mississippi River valley on
Thursday morning. This will place middle Tennessee in the broad warm
sector of this developing weather system. Sustained winds of 20 to
30 mph with gusts to 40 to 45 mph will be possible from the mid
morning hrs on Thursday into Thursday evening. Thus...for that time
period...a Wind Advisory has been issued for all of middle
Tennessee. Additionally...unseasonably warm temperatures will occur
across the mid state on Thursday...with highs reaching into the low
to mid 70s...except the upper 60s plateau.
In the afternoon...a strong cold front will approach middle
Tennessee. At the same time...the surface low will be moving
northeastward into the Great Lakes region. This will bring an
increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms to the mid state. By
mid afternoon Thursday...it is likely that a line of showers
and thunderstorms will form just ahead and along this frontal
passage. This line of showers and thunderstorms...known as a squall
line...may produce severe thunderstorms with damaging straight line
winds and locally heavy rainfall. There is also a possibility of
a few embedded tornadoes within this line.
The potentially severe line of thunderstorms is expected to reach
northwest middle TN between the hours of 3 PM and 6 PM...the I-65
corridor between 5 PM and 8 PM...and the Cumberland Plateau area
from 8 PM to midnight.
There is still some uncertainty as to the exact timing of this
event...and this severe weather situation will continued to be
monitored. Check back for the latest weather information as this
event approaches. This is also a good time to prepare and have a
