iNWS User Community System Alert -- Update #2

iNWS User Community: Message #2 : The iNWS servers are being upgraded – the transition to the new servers is now scheduled for January 5th. The new systems are running and testing will continue. However, we have decided that it would be prudent to wait until after the holidays to implement this change. As a reminder: iNWS services will remain the same and no modifications should be required by most users. A few changes to note that will occur after the upgrade: -- Email alerts will now come from inws.alerts@noaa.gov . -- The web address for the main iNWS interface will change to https://inws.ncep.noaa.gov . -- Text messages will still use the 56149 user code. If you experience a problem, please contact us at inws.support@noaa.gov . We will provide an another update around January 1. iNWS Team

Special Statement Statement as of 3:20 AM CST on February 25, 2014 ...Light snow possible in middle Tennessee tonight... Two weather systems will move through the region tonight bringing a chance for light snowfall. The first system will be an area of low pressure along the Gulf Coast that will spread moisture northward across the Gulf coastal states in the overnight hours. The northern extent of the precipitation will be in the form of light snow that could reach far southern middle Tennessee...where a light dusting would be possible. The second weather system will be a fast moving disturbance in the northwesterly flow aloft that will move through the mid state quickly in the overnight bringing a chance for up to one half inch of snow in the upper Cumberland...with a dusting possible west of the plateau. Low temperatures by Wednesday morning will be in the lower to mid 20s area wide. Thus...the development of slick and perhaps snow covered Road conditions may...

Special Statement Statement as of 4:21 PM CST on February 24, 2014 ...Light snow possible across middle Tennessee Tuesday night... A wave of low pressure in the northwest Gulf will begin to transport moisture northward and eastward over the next 24 to 36 hours. Meanwhile...a cold dome of high pressure will be moving southward from Canada toward Tennessee. The combination of these features will lead to the threat of some light snowfall on Tuesday night. For now...it appears that the lower levels of the atmosphere will be rather dry and the bulk of the precipitation will remain south of middle TN. However...there is a chance that some of the precipitation may make it far enough to the north to provide middle TN with a chance of snowfall. At this time...only a dusting of snowfall is possible across the mid state...except along the Cumberland Plateau where accumulations of up to one half inch may occur. Public Information Statement Statement as of 2:32 PM CST on February 21, 2014 ...NWS storm survey team concludes damage in Cross Plains area associated with straight line winds... The National Weather Service storm survey team concluded that the damage in the Cross Plains community was not a tornado. It was classified as straight line wind damage. Damage consisted of a few trees with large limbs that were snapped and large outhouse buildings with roof damage. One such large outhouse...which stored large farming equipment...completely lost its aluminum roofing in the winds. The maximum wind speed was estimated to be 77 mph based off the level of damage to the outhouse. The wind damage was located along Tennessee Highway 25 spanning from about 4 miles west of Cross Plains...to the community of Cross Plains.
