Statement as of 4:10 PM CDT on August 28, 2013
...Heat index values expected to rise into the mid 90s and near
100 rest of week and through the weekend...
High pressure will dominate the mid state region over the next few
days and coupled with dewpoints in the upper 60s...will result in
heat index values in the mid 90s to near 100.
The upper level high pressure center creating this hot weather
will be centered over the arklatex region and slowly shift
westward. The effects of this high pressure will be experienced
for locations west of the Cumberland Plateau region. These conditions
will persist until a cold front moves through the area Monday
evening.
Areas farther west...along the Tennessee River specifically...will
experience the highest heat indexs...some of which may reach or exceed
100 degrees. Farther east...heat indexs in the mid to upper 90s
will be possible.
Remember to take necessary precautions to protect from heat
exhaustion or heat stroke. Do not leave children or pets in cars
unattended as temperatures can reach well into the triple digits
within a vehicle even after only a few minutes.
