SOHO Pic Of The Week: REACHING OUT (JULY 26, 2013)

An eruption of slightly cooler material in conjunction with a coronal mass ejection observed by the STEREO (Ahead) spacecraft broke into two strands that appeared to reach as they stretched and eventually disappeared above the Sun (July 21-22, 2103). The active region from which it originated was facing directly towards the spacecraft at the time. The video covers about 12 hours of activity. The images were taken in a wavelength of extreme UV light.

SOHO began its Weekly Pick some time after sending a weekly image or video clip to the American Museum of Natural History (Rose Center) in New York City. There, the SOHO Weekly Pick is displayed with some annotations on a large plasma display.

If your institution would also like to receive the same Weekly Pick from us for display (usually in Photoshop or QuickTime format), please send your inquiry to steele.hill@gsfc.nasa.gov.
