Special Statement
Statement as of 2:15 PM CDT on April 10, 2013
...Severe thunderstorms possible in middle Tennessee
on Thursday...
A squall line is forecast to move eastward from Arkansas and be along the Mississippi River by 1 am CDT. As the squall line moves eastward overnight it is forecast to weaken as it nears the Tennessee River around 8 am CDT on Thursday.
However...showers and thunderstorms are expected to regenerate during the morningwith a few possibly becoming strong to severe as they move eastward across middleTennessee during the day on Thursday. The main threat will be damaging straight line winds...large hail. Isolated brief spin up tornadoes cannot be ruled out given the amount of low level wind shear forecast across the area.
For the first three months of this year there have been 27 tornadoes
in Tennessee with no fatalities. Last year for the same period we
also had 27 tornadoes but with 3 fatalities.
April is the peak month for severe weather across middle Tennessee.
Prepare ahead for potential severe weather by monitoring the latest
forecasts and checking batteries in your NOAA Weather Radio. Stay
tuned to local media and weather.Gov for the latest information on
this potential severe weather situation.

...Severe thunderstorms possible late tonight into Thursday...
A strong cold front is expected to move across middle Tennessee
late tonight and Thursday...with a line of thunderstorms developing
along the front and pushing across the mid state. Conditions are
favorable for some of the storms to become severe along this
line...with damaging winds and heavy rain being the main threat.
Brief spin up tornadoes cannot be ruled out given the amount of
low level wind shear forecast across the area.
At this time it appears the severe weather threat is greatest
early Thursday morning near the Tennessee River...Thursday morning to
midday along and near the I-65 corridor...and during Thursday
afternoon on and near the plateau.
April is the peak month for severe weather across middle
Tennessee. Prepare ahead for potential severe weather by
