...NWS Nashville radar will be down from January 17th through 29th...

As part of a nationwide upgrade to the WSR-88D radar network...the
Old Hickory kohx radar will soon undergo equipment upgrade that
will add advanced dual polarization capabilities.

Dual polarization installation for the kohx radar is scheduled to
begin January 17 2012. Completion is scheduled for January 29
2011. The radar will be offline during this two week installation
period.

During this outage...radars at surrounding sites...such as Memphis
TN...Hytop al...and Fort Campbell KY can be used for coverage.

The dual pol capabilities will include more accurate estimation of
rainfall totals...better delineation between rain...snow...and
hail...as well improved diagnostics for severe storm interrogation.
