Severe Thunderstorm Watch
Statement as of 5:00 AM CDT on April 26, 2012
The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
southeast Kentucky
middle and eastern Tennessee
Effective this Thursday morning from 500 am until noon CDT.
Hail to 1 inch in diameter...thunderstorm wind gusts to 70
mph...and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 50
statute miles north and south of a line from 30 miles north
northeast of Knoxville Tennessee to 75 miles west of Crossville

Remember...a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.

Discussion...bowing MCS with a history of wind damage and large hail
production is expected to continue sewd across the watch area this
morning at 40-45 kt. Ambient inflow air mass remains warm and
moderately unstable...and given the steep midlevel lapse rates and
40-45 kt of deep nwly shear...environment should continue to Foster
vigorous updraft growth on the leading edge of system cold pool.
Damaging winds and hail will remain the primary hazards.
Aviation...a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1 inch. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots.
A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm motion
vector 33040.
