Special Weather Statement
Statement as of 4:17 AM CDT on March 24, 2011
...Frost and freezing temperatures possible late tonight...
High pressure influences will prevail across middle Tennessee
tonight...with partly cloudy skies and light winds expected.
Low temperatures tonight will range from around 30 degrees on the
Cumberland Plateau...to the lower and middle 30s elsewhere. These
temperatures will be from 5 to 10 degrees below what is normal for
late March.
For much of middle Tennessee in the Spring...the last freeze normally
occurs by April 10th...and for the Cumberland Plateau areas by
April 20th.
The low temperatures that are predicted Thursday night are not
unusual for late March. But due to the recent mild weather we have
experienced for the last few weeks...plants have begun growing and
trees have begun producing buds. Any frost or freeze may kill
tender plants.
People are urged to protect any tender plants outdoors by covering
them with newspapers or blankets where possible. Any potted plants
can be brought indoors.
