Severe Thunderstorm Watch
Statement as of 12:00 PM CDT on June 27, 2011
The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
far southern Indiana
western and central Kentucky
northern-middle Tennessee
Effective this Monday afternoon and evening from noon until 800
PM CDT.
Hail to 1.5 inches in diameter...thunderstorm wind gusts to 70
mph...and dangerous lightning are possible in these areas.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 95
statute miles east and west of a line from 80 miles east
northeast of Owensboro Kentucky to 30 miles south southeast of
Clarksville Tennessee. For a complete depiction of the watch see

Remember...a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.
Discussion...trailing-stratiform MCS over the lower OH valley is
expected to intensify this afternoon as it interacts with a moist
and moderately unstable inflow air mass with MLCAPE of 2000-2500
j/kg. Area VAD/profiler data indicate the presence of 40-45 kt wly
flow in the midlevels...resulting in around 40 kt of wly deep-layer
shear. As such...given environment appears supportive of the
acceleration/forward-propagation of MCS with attendant threats for
damaging winds and hail.
Aviation...a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60
knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 500. Mean storm
motion vector 27035.
