...National Weather Service confirms EF2 tornado occurred in Stewart
County Monday evening...

A National Weather Service survey team has confirmed that the damage
that occurred in the Big Rock area in northeast Stewart County
yesterday evening was caused by a tornado. With Max winds of 120 mph
this classifies as an EF2 tornado that traveled at least 7 miles
into Fort Campbell.  Maximum width was 150 yards.  There were 2
injuries and no fatalities.

Damage began near the intersection of Bumpus Mills and brazzie dock
roads and was continuous at least 7 miles northeast into
inaccessible areas of ft. Campbell.  The last visible evidence of
damage was 1/2 mile east of the intersection of Hwy 20 and Big Rock
Rd.

The most significant damage...EF-2 with winds near 120 mph...was
along Cherry Hollow Rd just northeast of the Big Rock community.
Several homes suffered significant roof damage including one with
complete roof loss.  An occupied Mobile home was totally destroyed
with debris scattered at least 100 yards into a field.

It is very likely the tornado damage path extended all the way
across ft. Campbell in Stewart and extreme northwest Montgomery
County before entering Kentucky.  We will make additional path
length information available after further coordination with the NWS
office in Paducah KY.
